🍤 Quick & Easy Prawn Recipes for Home Chefs

Celebrate good food with these two fuss-free prawn dishes – one Western, one Chinese – perfect for family dinners or entertaining.

1. Garlic Butter Prawns (Western Style)

Ingredients (serves 2–3):

  • 500 g frozen prawns (defrosted, peeled & deveined)

  • 2 tbsp butter & 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 4–5 cloves garlic, finely chopped

  • A pinch of chilli flakes (optional)

  • Lemon juice, salt & black pepper to taste

  • Chopped parsley, to serve

Method:

  1. Heat oil and 1 tbsp butter in a pan over medium heat.

  2. Add prawns and sear for 1–2 minutes until pink, seasoning with salt and pepper.

  3. Add garlic and chilli flakes, cooking briefly until aromatic.

  4. Stir in the remaining butter and a squeeze of lemon juice.

  5. Scatter over parsley, serve hot with bread or pasta.

2. Steamed Garlic Prawns with Vermicelli (Chinese Style)

Ingredients (serves 2–3):

  • 8–10 head-on frozen prawns, thawed, cleaned & butterflied

  • 50 g glass vermicelli noodles (soaked in warm water)

  • 10 cloves garlic, finely chopped

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

  • 1 tbsp light soy sauce + 2 tbsp chicken stock (or water)

  • 1 tsp sugar, spring onions to garnish

Method:

  1. Arrange soaked vermicelli on a heatproof plate. Top with prawns.

  2. Heat oil in a pan, add half the garlic and stir-fry until fragrant; reserve remaining raw garlic.

  3. Sprinkle both garlics over prawns.

  4. Mix soy sauce, stock and sugar; drizzle evenly.

  5. Steam for 10–12 minutes until prawns turn opaque.

  6. Garnish with spring onions and serve warm.
