Delicious Dishes You Can Make With Miso

Delicious Dishes You Can Make With Miso

Miso is a traditional Japanese seasoning made from fermented soybeans, rice or barley. It has a savory and salty flavour which makes it the perfect ingredient for adding an umami punch to any dish. There are many ways to enjoy miso - from soups, sauces and marinades to stews, curries and salads. Here are just some of the delicious dishes you can make with miso:

Miso Soup - One of the most common uses for miso is in soup. The classic version consists of a miso paste stirred into a dashi stock with tofu and chopped scallions - but you can also add other ingredients like fish balls, seaweed or mushrooms if you wish to make it more flavorful. Feel free to add more miso than the recipe calls for if you prefer your soup extra salty. Serve hot alongside cooked rice for a comforting meal on a cold day!

Miso Salmon - Miso paste makes an ideal marinade for fish thanks to its savory flavor profile and high salt content which helps preserve the flesh during cooking. Try marinating salmon in a mixture of white or red miso paste mixed with sake, mirin and sugar before baking in the oven at 425°F (220°C) - this will result in tender flakes of fish bursting with flavor! Serve warm on top of cooked rice or noodles for an elegant dinner plate.

Miso Aubergine - Aubergines are another vegetable that pairs very well with miso due to its soft texture and mild taste. Slice up some eggplant halves lengthwise then brush them generously with melted butter mixed with white or red miso paste before baking in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C). Alternatively, fry eggplant slices until golden brown then top off with spoonfuls of miso sauce as desired - either way they'll be delicious!

Grilled Miso Chicken - If you love grilled chicken then this will be right up your alley! Marinate chicken pieces in a mixture of sake, ginger juice, mirin and white or red miso paste then pop them onto skewers and grill over medium-high heat until lightly charred on both sides and cooked through. When grilled properly this will result in juicy pieces of chicken that are packed full of flavour! Serve warm as part of your favorite summer barbeque spread.

Spicy Miso Ramen - Ramen is always an exciting comfort food option but when topped off with spicy miso flakes it takes things up another notch! Choose your favourite ramen. Then simply cook according to package instructions then stir through generous amounts of spicy miso flakes before serving hot - bon appetite!
